Police in the Eastern Region have instituted an investigation into the murder of 41-year-old Tiyesi Chiguduli who, until his death, was a motorcycle taxi operator.

Eastern Region Police deputy spokesperson, Tionge Kayenda, says the incident occurred during the night of August 24 to 25, 2021 at Chibwana Dambo Area, Traditional Authority Kawinga in Machinga District.

“It was reported that, on that fateful night, Chiguduli was at Ntaja Trading Centre motorcycle taxi rank doing his usual transport business. There came two unknown male passengers who hired him claiming to be going to Chikweo,” Kayenda said.

It is alleged that upon reaching Chibwana Dambo area, the passengers stabbed Chiguduli on his throat with a knife and robbed him of his unregistered Rifan motorcycle.

Chiguduli sustained a deep cut on his neck and died on the spot.
Medical officers at Machinga District Hospital confirmed that death was due to haemorrhage secondary to severe loss of blood.
