After losing his job in March 2020, Khaby Lame did not expect that one day he would become a millionaire thanks to his popularity on the social network TikTok.
Now, Khaby Lame has the 2nd most followed account in the world, behind Charli D’Amelio, 17, who has 120 million followers and is the most successful TikToker ever.
From rag to riches
Born in Senegal – West African country, Lame later moved to the industrial town of Chivasso, in northern Italy, where he lost his factory job in March 2020.
Lame’s father advised him to apply for another job but he didn’t take the advice, this young man decided to spend time on TikTok. Lame specializes in creating videos showing his reactions to other videos on TikTok.
Gaining millions of followers without saying a word
In the video, he doesn’t say a word but instead has an impressive facial expression and a shrugging gesture in front of the camera. Lame’s humorous content quickly spread around the world.
The total number of likes for his TikTok videos is 1.5 billion and his most viewed video has 158 million views. Lame is estimated to have a net worth of between $1.3 million and $2.7 million.
Meanwhile, Lame credits his success to his distinctive facial features. “My face and expressions make people laugh,” he said.
He believes that the non-verbal videos make the content he makes special and easily spread as a “global language”.
Lame has 33 million followers on Instagram and 70,000 followers on Twitter. Recently, he also launched his own YouTube channel, but this channel does not have any videos yet.
