Police officer denied bail for hacking teenage boy in cell

Senior Resident Magistrate’s court in Mangochi has on Wednesday denied bail a police officer who is suspected to have assaulted a 13-year old boy with a panga knife while in police custody.
Detective Sub Inspector Augustine Julio, of Chiponde police Unit who is answering unlawful wounding charge, on Wednesday appeared before Senior Resident Magistrate Rodrick Michongwe, who denied him bail saying at this stage it may not be good since victim also resides in the same area.
The case has since been adjourned to Wednesday, 1st September 2021, for hearing.
