The five judge panel constituted to hear a case in which the former governing Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) wants the presidency of Dr. Lazarus Chakwera invalidated on the basis that his victory election was administered by an illegitimate commission has settled for September 14 this year for a scheduling conference.
The DPP wants the court to nullify the results of the fresh election on the basis that it was administered by an illegitimate commission.
The application for the nullification of the polls follows invalidation by the court – of the appointment of two MEC Commissioners namely; Linda Kunje and Jean Mathanga on claims that they were illegally appointed.
At present the DPP is being presented by one lawyer, Charles Mhango who is its legal advisor.
Dr. Chakwera’s legal team is yet to be known, but there are strong prospects that he may hire a private legal team to defend his presidency.
Registrar for the Supreme Court of Appeal and the High Court Gladys Gondwe, says the court will give directions on the matter after the meeting.
