Former President of Zambia Edgar Chagwa Lungu has deactivated his official Facebook page weeks after losing his presidency seat to Opposition leader Hakainde Hichilema.
According to a statement from Lungu’s office the disappearance of the Facebook page is in regard with an internal process which is underway to realign and refocus the page to the new status of Lungu.
“An internal process is underway to realign and re-focus the Facebook page to the new status of former President, Dr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu,” read part of the statement.
While thanking over a million followers of Lungu on Facebook, the statement outlined that it is important that people should accept that Lungu has a new role of former head of state and everything including his social media tools must be realigned.
“We are grateful for all the followers and supporters of both the page and the former President,”
“We however, have to accept that Dr. Lungu has a new role and a few matters including his social-media tools have to change and be suitably realigned,” added the statement.
Lungu has ruled Zambia for six years and has said he is willing to retire from active politics as he has run his race.
