One of the social commentators Onjezani Kenani has hailed President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera’s surprise visit to Capitol Hill, saying this will act as a work up call in public institutions.
On Thursday Chakwera together with his Vice Dr. Saulos Chilima stormed through the Department of Human Resource Management and Development (DHRMD) at Capital Hill to demand answers and call officials to account for the chronic delays in remitting salaries to public servants.
Chakwera was coming from the launch of a nutrition campaign at Bingu International Convention Center (BICC).
The President directed his motorcade to take him to Capital Hill instead of State House.
The action taken by Chakwera attracted mixed reactions on social media with many applauding him for a swift action on salary delays for civil servants in the country.
Onjezani Kenani wrote: “These sudden calls in public offices are a welcome move – one way to wake everyone up.”
Concurring with Kenani’s remarks Christopher Mgwadira wrote: “That is great from the president… I hope he wasn’t smiling.
Meanwhile it is yet to be seen if the challenges rocking the salary delays in government institutions will normalize soon.
