Information reaching this publication indicates that Professor Nancy Chitera has been appointed as Acting Chancellor of the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) formerly known as Polytechnic.

The development follows the de-linking of the University of Malawi (UNIMA) by the Tonse Alliance.

MUBAS Council Chairperson Professor George Kanyama Phiri has confirmed of the development in a statement seen by this publication.

According to Kanyama Phiri, Chitera’s appointment has been approved by President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera who is MUBAS Chancellor.

“It has pleased His Excellency, The President of Malawi Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera to approve the council’s recommendation that Associate Professor Nancy Chitera should serve as Acting Vice Chancellor with immediate effect until a substantive Vice Chancellor has been identified.

“The appointments were made on the council’s first meeting which took place on August 17th, 2021,” reads in part the statement.

The MUBAS council has also approved that Associate Professor Betchani Tchereni should serve as Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor of MUBAS.
Other appointments are; Acting University Registrar, Mr Ellius Chizimba, Acting Director of Finance and Investment; Mr Chikondi Jenala, Acting University Librarian, Dr Dorothy Eneya and Acting Director of Student Affairs, Dr Gertrude Sitolo Banda.
