South African police in the Eastern Cape are on the hunt for a 30-year-old man who allegedly killed his mother over the weekend.
A pair of children, including her granddaughter, discovered the deceased’s body, at her home on Sunday, 5 September.
A South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Sergeant Kaya Matola-Mvanyashe said the 59-year-old victim lived with her son and his two-year-old daughter. She worked at the Ngolo clinic as an assistant nurse.
According to the information at the police’s disposal, the victim usually left her granddaughter at her neighbour’s house when she went to work and on the day her body was discovered she failed to fetch the toddler, which prompted the neighbour’s to send their 10-year-old daughter to take the younger child home.
“The 10-year-old neighbour’s child accompanied the two-year-old home where the children made the discovery of the deceased woman lying in a pool of blood,” said Matola-Mvanyashe.
The police spokesperson added that a bible and a knife were found on top of the deceased’s body. She had sustained multiple stab wounds to her body during the attack. The police are currently searching for her son.
“The circumstances surrounding the incident are currently being investigated and a case of murder has been opened,” said Matola-Mvanyashe.
