A 21-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly trying to smuggle Indian hemp into Lilongwe Police Station’s cell.

The suspect, identified as Watson Chimwemwe, who lives on the city street, was arrested at Lilongwe Police Station.

A detective police officer caught the suspect as he was about to visit his friend who was previously held under police custody.

It was later discovered that the one whom the suspect was going to deliver the illicit herb was already dispatched to Maula Prison on remand.

Police have charged the suspect with a case of being found in possession of Indian hemp.

He will appear in court soon to answer the charge.
