A 35-year old woman is in police custody in Phalombe for allegedly killing a man who was failing to settle a debt for items he bought on credit.

Phalombe Police Public Relations Officer Jimmy Kapanja, identified the suspect as Chimwemwe Salawe Mwale, who sells her items on credit.

“On Friday, around 11am at Holy Family Mission Hospital, the suspect met Emmanuel Maganga, 25, who had bought items on credit from her and was not honouring the debt. The suspect locked Maganga in her motor vehicle and went to attend other customers,” he said.

Kapanja said, while inside the locked motor vehicle, Maganga became weak and started vomiting and opening bowels.

He was taken to Holy Family Mission Hospital before being referred to Zomba Central Hospital where he died while receiving treatment.

Samples have been collected for further analysis at Central Laboratory.

The suspect will soon appear in court to answer the charge of murder.

The suspect hails from Poko Village, Traditional Authority Mkanda in Mchinji District.
