Five buses carrying business traders from Tanzania have been detained along the M1 road near Chilumba Barracks in Karonga by the Malawi Defence Force (MDF) soldiers.
According to information at hand, the traders have been detained for under declaration of imports to Malawi Revenue Authority.
The buses are said to have been detained yesterday night.
MDF spokesperson Major Emmanuel Mlelemba asked for more time before commenting on the matter.
Meanwhile some traders have accused MDF solders of deliberately detaining them despite producing MRA receipts for their merchandise.
