Muslim Women Organization (MWO) has called on civil society organizations in the country to help a Mangochi based woman to appeal a 17 year sentence which was meted to her for pouring hot water on her estranged husband.
The woman Anunu Saidi, 20, who comes from Mbalame village Traditional Authority Jalasi in Mangochi, was handed the 17 year jail sentence last Week by Senior Resident Magistrate Rodrick Michongwe.
According to reports, Anunu poured hot water on the man because the man refused to give her money for initiation ceremony for the children simply because they are not his biological children.
Speaking to Radio Islam, Coordinator for MWO, Asiyatu Lipenga, says much as MWO condemns her behaviour in strongest terms, it feels that the sentence is too harsh hence calling on civil society organizations to help her appeal the sentence.
