Police in Liwonde, Machinga have recovered a Toyota Sienta registration number BLK7843 which was stolen in Blantyre last night.

Machinga Police Station deputy spokesperson, Ngwashape Msume, says the vehicle which was running as a taxi was hired by Harry Mkwezalamba, 32, to drive him within Blantyre but later, he got the keys from the driver and disappeared.

“They stopped at Kips restaurant where the suspect ordered food for the driver and later asked the driver to give him car keys to get his cellphone from the vehicle. However, Mkwezalamba disappeared with the vehicle while the taxi driver was still in the restaurant,” explained Msume.

Msume further said the driver reported the matter to police and it was later recovered by Liwonde police along the Liwonde-Ntaja Road during night patrol. Mkwezalamba was heading towards Mangochi direction.

Mkwezalamba has been charged with an offence of theft of motor vehicle contrary to section 282(i) of the penal code and he will appear before court soon.

He hails from Sileti village,Traditional Authority Kanduku in Mwanza District.
