Police at Jenda in Mzimba have arrested 25-year-old Kitta Gondwe in connection with the death of a 75 year-old woman who was killed on September 6 this year.
The deceased—Ilenga Mvula—was found dead in a bush near her house.
Jenda Police spokesperson Martha Msamali said the suspect was apprehended by the community.
“They later took him to Jenda Police Station where he confessed to have committed the offence due to drug influence (Chamba),” she said.
Prior to her death, Ilenga had been staying alone and the suspect used to frequent her house.
The suspect faces a murder charge, which contravenes section 209 of the Penal Code.
He comes from Kagungu Gondwe Village in the area of Traditional Authority Mabulabo in Mzimba.
