The Malawi Police Service on Thursday arrested a form 2 student and two form four students from Elangeni Private Secondary School for allegedly being involved in cheating malpractice in the ongoing Junior Certificate of Education (JCE) examination.

Malawi National Examination Board (MANEB) has confirmed of the development in a statement posted on its official facebook page seen by this publication.

According to the statement, the suspect smuggled two pages of social studies paper which he was writing into the bush.

“Emfeni Police in Mzimba yesterday arrested a male JCE candidate of Elangeni Private Secondary School for removing some pages from the Social Studies paper ,which he was sitting for, and smuggling them into the bush where 2 form Four boys were waiting to help him answer the questions.

“The candidate had left the examination room on the pretext of wanting to use the toilet and the police officer who had escorted him saw him sneak from the toilet into the bush. The police officer and the centre supervisor followed him into the bush where the form four boys were waiting. The candidate and his two accomplices were arrested and have been granted bail. The candidate will continue writing examinations,” reads in part the statement.

Meanwhile MANEB as appealed to the candidates to desist from examination malpractices.
