The Inspector General of Malawi Police Service (MPS) George Kainja has granted Center for Democracy and Economic Development Initiative (CDEDI) an audience to discuss issues surrounding police brutality.
Sylvester Namiwa, CDEDI’s Executive Director confirmed of the development in a press statement seen by this publication.
The good governance grouping, complained of reported cases of excessive use of force by the police on unarmed citizens which they specifically pointed out that women, children and the elderly were the main victims.
The reports, prompted CDEDI to seek an audience with the police chief to voice out their concerns on the same.
The IG has since granted CDEDI an audience which is scheduled to take place today, on October 1, 2021 in Lilongwe.
“We are, therefore, pleased to inform all Malawians of goodwill, that the IG has granted us an audience, which is scheduled to take place tomorrow, Friday, 1st October 2021, at the Police Headquarters at Area 30 in Lilongwe, at 10:00hrs,” said Namiwa.
Namiwa has since assured the general public that they will be updated on the outcome of the meeting.
