Four people were killed on Saturday when a wall collapsed on them during a wedding ceremony in GaChuene Thokgwaneng, Limpopo, according to police.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said the incident occurred around 17h00 on Saturday during a wedding ceremony. He stated that those attending the wedding ceremony were seated in a tent connected to an unroofed building when tragedy struck.
“People attending the wedding ceremony were reportedly seated in a tent that was joined to an unroofed building when strong winds blew up the tent, and in the process, the wall collapsed, instantly killing three people and injuring scores others.
According to Mojapelo, twelve other people were seriously injured and were taken to the hospital. “One of them succumbed to the injuries in hospital, bringing the total number of the fatalities at the wedding to four.”
He also stated that the process of identifying the deceased has begun and that their identities will be revealed once the next-of-kin have been notified.
According to Mojapelo, police in Lebowakgomo had opened a case of an inquest. “Police investigations are continuing.”
