Police in Mponela, Dowa are keeping in custody a 38 year old man for being found with Indian Hemp locally known as Chamba.
Mponela police publicist Macpatson Msadala confirmed of the arrest and identified the suspect as Titus Maveke.
According to Msadala, Maveke who was driving a truck carrying beverages was busted at Bua Roadblock when was stopped for a search.
Police officers at Bua roadblock alerted their colleagues at Mponela trade Centre who detained the vehicle and upon searching, they found two bags of Indian hemp under the driver’s seat.
The suspect will appear before the court very soon.
Despite being approved by parliament, being found with Chamba remains illegal in the country and is punishable by law.
