As part of corporate social responsibility, Old Mutual, one of the leading Insurance companies in Malawi has donated MK10 million to St. Luke’s Mission Hospital in the Eastern District of Zomba.

The donation will towards the purchase of assorted medical equipment for the newly built hospital’s theatre with the funding from the Malawi Association of Christian Support (MACS) of United Kingdom (UK).

Speaking after presenting the donation Old Mutual (Blantyre) Foundation Trust Chairman Taonga Manda said the Trust moved in to help as one way of giving back to the community.

“The foundation aims at integrating marginalized Malawians into mainstream economy by empowering individuals and communities through education, skills development, job creation and donations. This is our way of giving back to the communities we operate in.

“It is against this background that the Old Mutual (Blantyre) Foundation Trust today is donating Mk10 million to St Luke’s Mission Hospital towards the purchase of assorted medical equipment for the hospital theatre,” said Manda.

According to Manda, some of the items to be purchased includes; a washing machine, Heavy-duty sterilizer, one theatre bed, Two patient monitors, One theatre lamp, 4 patient trolleys, 5 patient beds for the observation area, assorted theatre instruments, backup desktop sterilizer, drip stand, oxygen concentrators and electric heavy duty sanction machine.

On her part Christian Health Association of Malawi (CHAM) Director of Finance Innocencia Chirombo applauded Old Mutual for a quick response on the matter.

“We greatly appreciate you Old Mutual for this donation as it will help in improving the services offered here. As the bible in Acts 20:32.to 35 says [Blessed is the hand that gives than the one which receives]. May the good Lord bless you,” said Chirombo.

Concurring with Chirombo’s remarks Rev Canon Hopeson Odala Jailosi who represented Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Upper-Shire Right Reverend Brighton Vitta Malasa hailed Old Mutual for the timely donation.

“As a church we are very grateful with this donation and we thank you Old Mutual for this kind gesture. Let me take this opportunity to assure you that we will make sure that the fund is used for intended purpose,” said Jailosi.

St. Luke’s Hospital is a Christian mission hospital founded in 1964 and the hospital serves a population of over 89,000 people.
