One of the right activists in the country Pemphero Mphande has described the newly launched the Presidential Delivery Unit (PDU) by President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera describing it as waste of tax payers money.

Chakwera launched the PDU on Monday with aim of speeding up development programmes.

The President said the unit is a place for action, and therefore he expects that heads of MDAs will be accountable and be able to deliver to the expectations of Malawians.

Writing on his official facebook page Mphande asked Chakwera to review the redundant and unnecessary move.

“The truth in this case is that the Presidential Delivery Unit is unnecessary and will be a waste of tax payers money. National development as an agenda of the government of the day is delivered by itself through its ministries, other government agencies as well as local and international partners.

“Promises made by the President and his Vice are theirs to keep not anyone else’s. Before we must check them, they must check themselves by making reference to that nice document called the manifesto which they sold to millions in 2020. That is what the Presidential Delivery Unit should be,” wrote Mphande.

He added: “A Chilima tinalonjeza feteleza otsika mtengo, titani? A Chakwera kufunsa. A Chilima kunzati tiyeni tikambe ndi anzathu akuunduna waza ulimi.

“This is how it works. But to create another body of people who will be working to do the job of the President and ministers is redundant. The caucus of the ministers, national assembly and councillors should have this mandate. In this way no one needs to be paid to verify if indeed one million jobs are being created. Even if they are volunteering, they will need resources to work that we must pay for.

“It is my appeal to the President Dr Lazarus Chakwera to review this redundant and unnecessary move. We trusted you to deliver that’s why we voted for you. Do your job. No one else who we didn’t vote for can. They can only help you and we trust that the institutions provided for by our constitution are capable of helping. Creating an extra body to do so is a waste of time, as it creates another step in the already lengthy bureaucratic mess, and indeed a waste of money!”

Effort to talk to Minister of Information Gospel Kazako proved futile.
