A women wing for the Malawi national association for the deaf( MANAD), has on Friday, cheered and donated various items for babies in the kangaroo ward unit at queen Elizabeth hospital in Blantyre.
Coordinator for the women desk, Gloria Kampondeni, said the donation was part of the associations’ commitment towards the newly born babies at the hospital, who she said, face a lot of challenges.
“Our research reveals that most babies born here are immature and face a lot of problems. Therefore, we thought of contributing some money to buy a sorted items for them.
This is also to show that we the deaf women are also able to support other people other than that we only want to be supported, ” she said
Kampondeni further, urged the mothers to take proper care of their children so as to be the good future leaders of the country.
“This is the foundation for the country. These are leaders of today and for them to achieve their dreams, they need proper guidance while still young,” said Kampondeni.
The items comprised among others, soap, wrappers, nappies, sweaters.
Speaking during the same function, Steven Magodi, the nursing officer for the hospital said hailed the women for the timely gesture.
Magodi said the kangaroo mother care unit is facing a lot of problems to care for the patients mostly because of the economic downturn as a result of covid 19 pandemic.
According to Magodi, the kangaroo mother care unit at queens hospital accommodates 15 to 20 women.
Malawi national association for the deaf is a non profit making organization which started in 1992 to fight for the rights of the people with hearing problems.
