Death has been announced of Patrick Botomani who was chairperson for Balaka District Council after he collapsed in his car while packing inside FDH bank premises in the district.

His vehicle was stopped by a shrub before people rushed him to Balaka District Hospital unconscious.

He was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital but cause of death is yet to be established, according to hospital spokesperson, Mercy Nyirenda.

“He was just elected as council chairperson for the second time, just to show the trust the full council had in him,” said council’s Public Relations Officer, Mary Makhringa.

Botoman represented Shire Ward in Balaka Central East Constituency.

He was 62.
