
Philbert Mkandawire found guilty of defrauding govt money amounting MK56.2 million

The Lilongwe Chief Resident Magistrate’s Court has found Philbert Mkandawire guilty on the counts of money laundering and theft.
He is expected to appear in court in November for sentencing.
According to a statement signed by Anti-Corruption Bureau Principal Public Relations officer, Egrita Ndala, Mkandawire, as Managing Director of Mahembe Civil Engineering, was arrested on February 10, 2014 in relation to cashgate.
Ndala said the accused obtained K56,247,996.14 from Ministry of Water Development and Irrigation for services which were not rendered.
