Do Your Part (DYP) youth group in Mzuzu donated assorted items worth K200, 000 to inmates at Mzuzu Prison on Thursday to assist them meet their daily needs at the facility.

The items included soya pieces, soap, Gotv decoder and clothes for the female inmates.

In an interview, Chairperson for the grouping, Matthews Bota, said the donation was made because in most cases, the society neglects the inmates’ well-being because of their past records.

“We wanted to show people that no matter what the inmates did in the past, they still need to be visited and be assisted because they too are important people,” Bota said.

Speaking after the donation, Mzuzu Prison Public Relations Officer (PRO), Macbeth Wasambo expressed gratitude for the donation, saying it would be of great assistance to the inmates.

He then urged people to come and assist the prison with various donations so as to ease the challenges at the prison.
