The Department of immigration in the Northern region has arrested 2 Burundians are suspected of entering in Malawi illegally.
The 2 Burundians; Alain Iradukunda,and Blaise Kubwenge both male and 19 years were apprehended on the night of 27 October, 2021 at Mpamba area in Nkhatabay where immigration officers manned a roadblock to track illegal migrants.
The two had entered in the country without a Visa – an important requirement for Burundians to enter in Malawi.
Currently the 2 are being kept at Mzuzu Prison awaiting to answer charges of illegal entry contrarily to section 21 (1) of the Malawi Immigration Act.
In related Development, a Cameroonian national has been arrested for attempting to obtain Malawian passport and illegal stay.
The Department of Immgration and citizenship services in the Northern Region has arrested a Cameroon National for attempting to procure a Malawian Passport at the Regional Immigration office North on 28 October, 2021.
Upon interviewed by Immigration officers, it was unveiled that the suspect is not qualified to obtain a Malawian passport and after further investigations at the Compliance Unit, it was discovered that the suspect is staying in the country illegally and wanted to apply for a Malawian Passport without following proper procedures.
The suspect, Ernest Bahti is a resident in South Africa and will appear before the court soon to answer charges of
Illegal entry c/s 21(1)of the Immigration Act and falsedeclaration for passport c/s 327 of the Penal Code.
