A 37 year old man in Chitipa district is accusing the police in the district of giving him ill treatment while he was in custody.
The man Ronald Mkumbwa who was arrested on the allegations that he stabbed a sex worker last month, claims that the police officers assaulted him by pressing a hot iron on his shoulders and head.
At the moment, Mkumbwa is out on police bail but has revealed his intentions of bringing the officers to book for the bodily harm they caused on him.
He further denied allegations that he stabbed a sex worker as reported to him which resulted to his arrest.
When asked Chitipa police spokesperson Sub Inspector Hope Nyalinyali confirmed having knowledge of Mkumbwa’s assault but denied that it was the police who did that.
According to Nyalinyali, Mkumbwa was assaulted by an angry mob which was reacting to the offense he allegedly committed.
