One of the social commentators in the country Joshua Chisa Mbele has said the high costs of some essential goods on the market will cost President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera’s bid for second in 2025 general election.
Recently Malawians have experienced a sharp rise in prices of essential goods due to the rise in prices of fuel and one of the affected essentials goods being fertilizer, Cement and Cooking oil.
As this is not enough, banks across the country have hiked its services offered to its customers due to the introduction of 16.5 percent Value Added Tax (VAT) by the Tonse Alliance administration led by President Chakwera.
Writing on his official Facebook page Mbele urged Chakwera to tread carefully on the issues currently affecting Malawians.
“Mr President, Cooking Oil. Fertilizer. Fuel. Cement. VAT on Bank Services.
“These things will cumulatively cost you the Presidency,” wrote Mbele.
He added: “Whoever is around you won’t be on the Ballot Paper. You will be there alone facing the voters.”
Meanwhile government is yet to comment on the matter.
