The Ministry of Civic Education and National Unity has urged chiefs and religious leaders in the country to continue fostering peace and unity for improved service delivery.
The Minister responsible, Timothy Mtambo said this during the presentation ceremony of a Peace and Unity Bill to different stakeholders including chiefs and religious leaders in Mzuzu.
In his address on the bill which will pave way for the formation of a Malawi Peace and Unity Commission, Mtambo said the bill is crucial in promoting Malawi 2063 agenda.
“Development cannot thrive where people are not living in harmony,” said Mtambo.
The Minister said the core duty of the Commission will be to foster dialogue within political, cultural or religious circles for a better Malawi.
Senior Chief Mwankhunikira of Rumphi District said as chiefs they have welcomed the bill and further urged Members of Parliament to vote for the bill for continued development.
The Peace and Unity Bill is expected to be presented in Parliament for deliberations soon.
