Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) has endorsed the Minibus Owners Association of Malawi(MOAM) nationwide protests slated for Monday next week against the tollgate fees.
Speaking in an interview with press HRDC Chairperson Gift Trapence said government through the Roads Fund Administration should have listened to the public outcry on the exorbitant fees.
Government has revealed it will rollout the Tollgate Plaza at Chingeni in Ntcheu as Consumers Association of Malawi argues authorities should have consulted widely before implementation of the project.
The association is asking the Ministry of Finance to reduce the set K3 400 toll fees for Class 1B and K5 100 for Class 2A to K500 and K600 respectively.
Government through Minister of Information Gospel Kazako is yet to comment on the matter.
