The police and the judiciary in Mangochi have destroyed about 500 kgs of cannabis sativa or hemp popularly known as chamba.
The hemp, according to Mangochi police prosecutor, Sub Inspector Skeva Munyapa, was impounded between June and October 2021 from different people and the perpetrators were already jailed by the courts.
Police said the burning of the hemp was in compliance to a court order and public display that possession of Indian hemp remains a serious crime in the country.
