Radiographers Association of Malawi(RAM) has celebrated its anniversary of the discovery of X-rays Worldwide invented by Wilhem Roentgen 1895 in the midst of the Covid-19 Pandemic.

Speaking during the press briefing on Monday at Central Information Office, Chairman of the Radiographers Association of Malawi, Horris Kondoni said, the International Society of Radiographers Radiological Technologists(ISRRT) day revolves under the theme “The role of Radiographer in a Pandemic,” where it celebrates and recognizes the knowledge,skill,expertise given to support patients as frontline healthcare professionals.

“As radiographers worldwide, we use this day to celebrate and create public awareness about diagnostic imaging and radiation therapy and to promote the radiographer’s vital role as part of the health care team”.

Kondoni further said during the Covid-19 pandemic, radiographers have made a change in a commitment to ensure the principales of radiation protection, justification, optimizing and patient safety, are part of their everyday work.

The Radiographers Association of Malawi has commended the government of Malawi for buying a number of portable digital X-rays and ultrasound equipment which is used in designated Covid-19 treatment centres in Malawi, however it has urged the Malawi government to consider procurement of more computed tomography(CT) equipment in district hospitals as it is a gold standard for Covid-19 diagnosis and monitoring.

World Radiography day is celebrated on 8th November annually.
