Centre for Human Rights Education Advice and Assistance (CHREAA) has applauded Members of Parliament for dedicating their time to discuss the current pathetic situation in the country’s prisons.
The sentiments by CHREAA follows a debate which took a centre stage in Parliament on Tuesday when legislatures expressed dismay over the pathetic situation in the country’s prisons which among other issues the members are worried with the overpopulation in the facilities.
CHREAA Executive Director, Victor Mhango, said they expect the members to discuss the amendment of prison Act which is archaic.
He further said he is expecting that the parliamentarians will also discuss on on the issue of Inspectorate of Prisons body, mandated to look into the welfare of prisoners, which has been never received any government support since it was instituted.
