Minister of Gender, Disability and Social Services, Dr Patricia Kaliati, has advised Non-Governmental Organizations(NGOs) to be self-dependent and stop depending on donors when carrying out their projects.

Dr Kaliati made the call Thursday in Zomba when she presided over the launch of Creative Centre for Community Mobilization (CRECOM) 2040 vision and social enterprise.

The minister said most of the NGOs in the country become visible when they have funding from donors and that each time donors stop supporting them they stop their programs.

“Government appreciates the role that NGOs play particularly in complimenting governments efforts of uplifting the living standards of Malawians. However, it saddens us to see a very vibrant organization dying just because a donor has stopped giving out resources, “Kaliati said.

Dr Kaliati hailed Crecom for launching the social enterprise, which she said, would improve on the organizations financial muscle and enable it sustain its programmes.
