The Malawi Police Service (MPS) has confirmed of the arrest of Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) broadcaster Steven Maseya on suspicion that he was circulating fake Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) examinations papers on the social media.
Maseya was arrested on Thursday in the eastern district of Mangochi.
In a statement National Police Spokesperson James Kadadzera said Maseya will answer charges of publishing false news likely to cause fear and alarm contrary to Section 60 of the Penal Code.
“The suspect was from early October, to 22 October, 2021, publishing and circulating fake MSCE examination papers on social media.
“He will be taken to court for prosecution after recording caution statements from the suspect,” said Kadadzera.
