Consumer Association of Malawi (CAMA) Executive Director, John Kapito, has accused water boards of lying to Malawians about their financial status and capacity to run their operations, a situation that left most of them, on the verge of collapse.

Kapito said, the boards are running cartels aiding illegal water connections, Laissez-faire attitude and lack of speed to respond to faults.

He said, confidence in water boards among Malawian consumers is very low and that the boards need to change their work ethics and not just raise tariffs.

In response, Chief Executive Officer for Blantyre Water Board, Robert Hanjahanja, said the feedback shows the boards are serving customer that are disatisfied, hence the need for these commitments they are signing today to ensure that customers in the country are not offered raw deals.
