The Public Appointments Committee (PAC) of Parliament has confirmed receiving a resignation letter from Pempho Likongwe a Board member of Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA).
However, PAC chairperson Joyce Chitsulo has declined to comment further on the matter.
Likongwe reveals he confided to one of the candidates, Richard Chapweteka, who was interviewed for the MERA CEO post, that he would not be successful.
He adds he advised Chapweteka not to turn down the MEC Commissioner appointment to avoid embarrassing the appointing authority.
Likongwe says he regrets his conduct hence the resignation.
