Police in Blantyre have fired tear gas and dispersed anti-government protesters who had gathered at the Old Town Hall.
This followed an action by the protesters who started pelting stones at the police.
The protesters were frustrated that the leader of the demonstration Bon Kalindo was taking time to show up at the venue.
In a related development, angry youths have blocked the Blantyre-Mandala road at Mibawa bus stand in Blantyre in a bid to stop anti government demonstrations in the city.
Meanwhile the situation is still tense in Blantyre.
