One of the leading insurance companies in the country, Old Mutual Malawi has once again fulfilled its moto of being a ‘Certain friend in Uncertain Times’ by donating medical equipment worth MK2 million to Nyanja Health Centre in Lilongwe.
The donated medical equipment will help in improving the maternity services offered at the hospital thereby reducing maternal deaths and long distances that women in the area travel to access maternal services.
Speaking after the donation, Old Mutual Malawi Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) Edith Jiya hailed the partnership which is there between the company and Lilongwe DHO.
“Allow me to thank Lilongwe DHO for being one of our partners in ensuring that customers and communities are being reached with better health services.
“Our plea is that these items be given good care so that they can be used for better maternity health Care services,” Jiya said.
On her part Chief Medical Officer for Lilongwe DHO, Dr Mary Chinseu Nkunika said the donated equipment have come at the right time as the hospital was looking for support from well-wishers.
“All I can say is thank you Old Mutual for the donation and I can assure you that the donated equipment will be used for intended purpose,” said Nkunika while smiling.
She further hinted that the hospital was built some years back but due to lack of equipment in the maternity wing, maternal services were not being offered until last year.
Concurring with Nkunika’s remarks, Traditional Authority (T/A) Kalumbu applauded Old Mutual for the kind gesture and urged other well-wishers to follow suite.
Nyanja Health Centre covers an area which has a population of over 78, 000 people.
