The High Court has dismissed an application by the Human Rights group, Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) to be friends of court in a case where the Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) is seeking judicial review.

Judge Kenyatta Nyirenda, has dismissed the application with costs.

MERA is seeking the review of a decision by the Office of Ombudsman to investigate recruitment of the Authority’s Chief Executive Officer, Henry Kachaje.

HRDC lawyer, Wesley Mwafulirwa, said the court did not find human right interest in the application as argued by his client as a ground to join the case.
