Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Member of Parliament for Blantyre City South Noel Lipipa wants the Malawi Defence Force (MDF) soldiers to provide security during anti-President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera demonstrations slated for today in the capital Lilongwe.

Lipipa’s sentiments follow a decision by the Lilongwe City Council to block the demonstrations on grounds that the Malawi Police Service will not have enough capacity to provide security since some law enforcers are engaged to provide to security to the ongoing SADC meetings.

Writing on his official facebook page Lipipa asked MDF soldiers to bail out the police on the matter as it was the case during previous demonstrations organized by Human Right Defenders Coalition (HRDC).
“If police will not have adequate capacity because of SADC, we will ask MDF to assist winiko. Thank you,” wrote Lipipa.

Meanwhile, the High Court in Lilongwe has allowed Bon Kalindo, former United Transformation Movement (UTM) National Youth Director to go on with the demonstrations.

Speaking after the court session Kalindo urged Malawians to come out in large numbers and demonstrate against rising cost of living in the country.

Reports coming from Lilongwe indicate that people from all walks of life are flocking to the venue of the demonstrations.
