Police in Kawale, Lilongwe have arrested a Kabaza Operator identified as Christopher Bester, 18, for illegal possession of listed species ( Pangolin) contrary to section 110(b)of the National Parks and Wildlife Act.
The suspect was arrested on November 25, 2021, following a report made by a well-wisher who found the said pangolin in a bathroom when opted for a shower.
Further investigations by Kawale detectives uncover that the animal escaped from the custodial of Bester, hence his arrest.
Upon being interviewed by the police, Bester revealed that he was given the pangolin in a laptop bag on Wednesday, November 23, 2021, by a customer who used to hire his motorcycle and was told to deliver it to a certain man in area 23 who he has never met.
Since it was late he went with it to his house and put it in the kitchen, Unfortunately, the animal escaped during the night and entered the compound of a neighbor.
Bester hails from Ngongoliwa Village in the area of Traditional Authority Chimaliro in Thyolo District.
The suspects will appear before court soon.
Meanwhile, Police have hailed the general public for their support in the fight against wildlife crime in the area.
