President Lazarus Chakwera has directed minister of Homeland Security Richard Chimwendo Banda to solicit views from both junior and senior police officers on how government can adequately address challenges facing Malawi Police Service.
Chakwera said this during Malawi Police Service Centenary Celebrations at Police Headquarters in Lilongwe.
The directive by Chakwera attracted cheers and clapping of hands especially by female officers.
Recently police suspended its commissioner responsible for Human Resource and development for alleged sexual misconduct.
Speaking earlier Inspector General of Police George Kainja lamented the sorry state of the aviation branch and marine services of the police saying alot needs to be done to turn things around .
Malawi Police Service was established in 1921 as Nyasaland Police Service.
