A local political analyst Wonderful Mkutche, has describing the arrests of three Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) officials as politically motivated.
According to Mkutche, the arrests are mere political conspiracies with no prospect of closure.
The three are former Reserve Bank of Malawi Governor and presidential hopeful Dalitso Kabambe, former finance minister Joseph Mwanamvekha and former local government minister, Ben Phiri.
In a statement confirming the arrests, the Malawi Police Service suggests that Mwanamvekha and Kabambe masterminded the falsification of economic performance in relation to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) extended credit facility.
On the other hand, Phiri’s arrest is related to some procurement fraud and corruption between 2018 and 2020 by his Beata Investment firm at the ministry of gender.
They are expected to appear before court soon.
