Malawi Congress Party (MCP), a party in Tonse Alliance has shifted to unknown day the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC).

Initially, the party was scheduled to hold NEC meeting on December 4, 2021 in the capital Lilongwe but the meeting failed due to a busy schedule by President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera.

According to information at hand, the meeting was aimed at discussing some of the challenges rocking the country and also to fill some of the vacant posts in the party.

MCP Spokesperson, Reverend Maurice Munthali has confirmed of the development in an interview with the press.

But Munthali has refuted claims that the meeting is influenced by a petition from its concerned and disgruntled members who asked for it.

He said the meeting is dictated by their constitution which calls for it to be held four times a year, but the imminent one, he said, is the second since the party took over government in 2020.

Two weeks ago, some concerned MCP members led by Alex Major gave Chakwera 14 day ultimatum to call for the indaba.

The members also asked President Chakwera to fire Secretary to the President and Cabinet Zanga-Zanga Chikhosi, State House Director of Communications Sean Kampondeni and State House Chief of Staff Prince Kapondamgaga.

The concerned members also claimed that some of the people that have surrounded Chakwera are entangled in dubious deals and shameful ways leading to their subsequent dismissals, hence Chakwera must reshuffle his cabinet and fill vacant positions.
