Former finance minister Joseph Mwanamvekha and former Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM) Governor Dalitso Kabambe have arrived at the Magistrate Court in Lilongwe.

The two are expected to be formally charged and apply for bail.

They were arrested on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively on suspicion that they altered figures presented to the International Monetary Fund to paint a rosy picture of the local economy as well as the sell of Malawi Savings Banks (MSB).

There is huge presence of police at the court premises as Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) supporters are chanting solidarity songs.
