Musicians in the country have joined the Malawians in mourning radio personality John Mota popularly known as ‘Atom The DJ’.

Mota died Thursday morning, December 9, 2021 at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre. He succumbed to hypertension.

Until his passing, Mota was a radio presenter at FM Power 101.

Well known Ndirande music dual W-Twice Chimodzimodzi said, “Rest in Atom The Dj (Another ng’wewu) Dj wa mu ghetto ndix Mmodzi mwa ma Dj amene wasewera nyimbo zathu kwambiri pa nyatwa flavor pa 101 radio osakulipirani kanthu. Mutasamikira ku Ndix dairy timabwera kwanu kuzatiphunzisa ziwiri zitatu we can’t forget u Ngakhale tachedwa but sitingagone osakufunirani kupumura kwabwino RIP again”.

Thocco Anaphi Katimba said “Such a big loss to the media fraternity and music industry. This gentleman was very unique in his style of radio presentation. He really loved promoting Malawi music. May his soul rest in peace ATOM DJ.’’

Maskal said “It is sad to hear about the loss of one of the most underrated DJs, John Mota. DJ Atom has supported local music in so many ways and I solemnly appreciate his contributions to my career. May his soul rest in peace. One thing I have learned in life is, help others without expecting returns. Be happy, hug someone, tell someone you love them because tomorrow is never promised, so you have to live your life today.”
