Barely three days after it was reported that unknown people have stolen 1200 bags of rice at Njewa in Lilongwe, the Capital City law enforcers have recovered 566 bags of the commodity in Mchinji along Malawi-Zambia border, on Sunday, December 12, 2021.
Inspector Hastings Chigalu, Lilongwe Police Public Relations Officer said during the recovery, the detectives also systematically arrested one prime suspect whose name they have withheld.
The commodity was already put on the market with some bags wearing a new look, completely changed from the original Admarc brand.
Meanwhile, the detectives have intensified investigations to trace the destination of the remaining consignment and arrest the other culprits.
On Friday, December 10, 2021 Lilongwe Police launched investigations into reports of theft of 60 tonnes of rice owned by Ideal Group Company, destined for Sudan that was kept at a warehouse at Njewa area in the district.
The robbers tied up the security guard before going away with the consignment in two 30 tonner trucks.
