The Malawi government through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has given recalled diplomats at the Malawi Embassy in Washington DC, United States of America (USA) up to December 31 2021 to return home or risk having their diplomatic passports and status revoked.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Rejoice Shumba, government has issued the new cut-off date for the recalled diplomats to return home after they failed to do so during the previous deadlines due to various factors.
The ministry has warned the recalled diplomats it will not hesitate to deploy a ‘Note Verbale’ to that country’s State Department to request for revocation of their diplomatic status and passports should they fail as the last and final resort to the recall implementation.
Government has so far recalled close to 70 diplomats from the country’s missions around the world but just about half have already arrived in Malawi.
