Former President and leader of the opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and the leader of the United Democratic Front (UDF), Atupele Muluzi, said the country is on autopilot.
Addressing thousands of party supporters who braved the wet weather at a mega rally in Blantyre, the two leaders accused Chakwera of nepotism and that they have failed to turn around the economy.
Mutharika said the Tonse Alliance-led administration of nepotism in the public service, claiming that they are persecuting people of the Lhomwe tribe.
Mutharika said his party which has already entered into an electoral pact with UDF is bound to win the 2025 elections.
Muluzi said the current regime is failing to lead Malawians prompting the citizenry to question the direction the country is heading in.
Among other things, Muluzi said the current regime lied about the free water connection fees and low passport fees.
Muluzi also said Malawians have been rendered helpless and have nowhere to go; hence, the government is not helping but instead threatening Malawians that they will be arrested.
Muluzi said Malawians elected a leader with no experience in running the government. He says the leader that Malawi has is full of hatred and is busy trying to silence the opposition.
Muluzi also took a swipe at Minister of Information Gospel Kazako saying he’s clueless on responding to Malawians’ questions on the plan that the government has put in place to cushion them from the current socio-economic situation.
