Senior Resident Magistrate Martin Chipofya has granted bail to businessman Abdul Karim Batatawala.

Batatawala was arrested last week in connection to the alleged dubious awarding of contract worth over K2 billion to supply police uniforms and other accessories at the Immigration Department in 2010.

Delivering his bail ruling, Magistrate Chipofya ordered Batatawala to pay a bail bond of MK800,000 and surrender all travelling documents.

The court also ordered Batatawala not to leave Blantyre without notifying ACB.

Below are bail conditions;

1. Bail bond of 8 hundred thousand kwacha cash.

2: Have one surity to bonded to the government of Malawi at the sum of K2.5 Million Kwacha non cash.

3. Surrender travel documents.

4. Not to interfere with state witness.

5. Comply with state in any further investigations.

5. Not to leave Blantyre without notifying ACB.

6. He should be examined by an independent doctor incase he is sick.

7. Report to ACB on Fridays every fortnight
